Child Inclusive Mediation (CIM)
Child-inclusive mediation is a rapidly growing method of family dispute resolution in Canada and other countries around the world. This modality broadens the scope of mainstream mediation by actively giving children a voice in decisions concerning their parents’ separation as it affects them; raises parental awareness of the impact of their separation on their children and encourages greater parental cooperation and the resolution of their dispute. The practice of CIM involves a qualified mental health professional meeting with the child(ren) separately from the parents, ascertaining their views and preferences on the family situation, exploring options for parenting arrangements (if appropriate) and subsequently providing feedback to the parents. At YFRC, we provide this complex service with sensitivity and care.
