Welcome

Welcome to Our Blog!

We are excited to share with you our inaugural blog post and officially welcome you to the York Family Resolution Centre! This launch is the first step in our longer-term plans.

The idea of developing a multi-disciplinary centre committed to the resolution of family conflict and dispute resolution has been in the works for some time. This idea developed naturally as individually, we are three female professionals, from different but related backgrounds, with a shared goal and commitment to resolving family disputes through dialogue and consensus.

We found that by pooling our varied experiences, ideas, and lenses for which we tackle problems, we create novel and innovative approaches to helping families in dispute. We generated novel concepts and made connections between modalities to integrate our skills and strengths. Most importantly, we recommitted ourselves to Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) and to pursuing, going forward, our sincere and sustained efforts to help families in need. Indeed, three is better than one # 3>1 as we expand our horizons and provide you with complementary skills to handle your unique needs.

York Region is an exciting, bustling, ever-growing part of Ontario – its economically and culturally diverse population enriches its fabric. In terms of FDR, it is on the frontier of a bright future. For years, many individuals and families in need of assistance with their family law disputes turned to the overwhelmed, backlogged court system by default, unaware of more cost effective and timelier alternatives, or were forced to seek help outside the Region.

These are exciting times for FDR, including because more and more Ontarians are learning about alternative ways of resolving family disputes and the justice system has joined the growing momentum in the direction of giving individuals and families options, choices, and more opportunities to craft their own futures. York Region is riding this wave, something we are very excited to see. Our forward-looking judiciary has for several years now encouraged families to seek resolution outside the court system, where at all possible. We look forward to being part of York Region’s growing community of FDR professionals. More than that, we hope to lead with our integrative and inter-disciplinary approach to family dispute resolution and we are committed to generating more innovative ideas in the years to come.
